Award-winning playwright and screenwriter Dan Kitrosser returns to Bag&Baggage and The Vault Theater to teach his methodology of playwriting.  Playwrights will attend weekly sessions at The Vault, working towards the completion of a brand new play, which will culminate in readings of their plays.

Bag&Baggage has been hugely successful at presenting new takes on familiar stories –  a style and approach that is shared by Dan! Dan Kitrosser fervently believes that when we create something new in art, we are still always standing on the shoulders of the art and artists that came before us.  In this eight-week class, playwrights will bring folktales, myths, novels, and plays that they adore and from that clay that is story, each playwright will mold a brand new play. From direct adaptation to modern-day updates or even just using the imagery and myths as inspiration, everything is possible!

We will meet once a week for 3 hours.  Each class will cover a different element of playwriting, including a discussion, an in-class writing exercise, as well as time for each playwright to have pages of their full-length play read aloud and discussed by the group.  Each playwright will finish a first draft of a play between 60 and 100 pages in length by the end of the class. We will culminate the 8 weeks with a performance of excerpts from all of the plays.
