Summary

Many theatre patrons are unaware of the notion of “performing rights” and how those contracts can impact the overall staging and approach to a production. Ira Levin, the author of Deathtrap, and his estate have a wide range of requirements and restrictions on how theatre companies can produce his classic work while, at the same time, theatres still want to put their own unique interpretation onto the play. In this discussion, Artistic Director Scott Palmer discusses the importance of performing rights agreements in light of the very real need to have a unique opinion about the work B&B produces.
