FAQs About Participating
What is the National Day of Theater Readings for MMIWR?
May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives (#MMIWR #MMIR #MMIW). Join in solidarity with Indigenous people by being part of a play reading about MMIWR on May 5, 2026.
How do I find plays about Missing and Murdered Indigenous People?
Here is a curated list of 15 plays on New Play Exchange, each of which addresses MMIWR from a different perspective.
How can my theater company participate?
Here are ways you can participate in the National Day of Theater Readings for MMIWR:
1. Choose a play that tackles MMIWR, and publicly present it at your venue on May 5, 2026
2. Partner with another organization in your community to pool resources to publicly present a reading (maybe you have a venue but no time to produce a reading; or maybe you’d like to participate, but you don’t have a space available)
3. Make your own plan!
What are the requirements to participate?
· A public presentation
· Any Native artists brought on board are paid equitably with other programs at your organization
What do we provide?
· A curated list of plays about MMIWR
· Press releases, which we will send nationally, and you can share with your own press lists
· A central website listing all theaters and readings

Why should my company participate?
This is an opportunity to move beyond land acknowledgments, create or build relationships, and connect with your fellow theatre companies.
