Bag&Baggage is proud to present our first-ever SOLO festival: a weekend of amazing performances and rehearsed readings by single performers.

Each evening features one full-production and one rehearsed reading, and tickets are only $10 per night, so our patrons will have the chance to experience two entirely different and unique performances for only $10!

February 1:

Act I: American Spirit by Rob Katsuno

Act II: True Love and Other Noncommunicable Diseases by Brianna Barrett

American Spirit

American Spirit explores how America’s aspirational culture shapes Rob’s vision of his ideal self until America’s individualism inspires him to discover his true spirit. His journey provides a window into the Japanese-American experience and mines his marriage to his Brazilian wife for laugh-out-loud humor. Rob Katsuno is an award-winning local author.

“My God – what a talent and force Rob is.”

-actress and comedian Lauren Weedman

“One of my favorite Back Fence stories of all time.”

-B. Frayn Masters, Host and Executive Producer of Back Fence PDX

True Love and Other Noncommunicable Diseases

True Love and Other Noncommunicable Diseases is a true story about a young woman with chronic health issues navigating her career goals, her personal insecurities, and her quest for true love. Dramatizing illness isn’t about exoticizing tragedy; it’s about telling stories we can all relate to: stories of losing our way, finding ourselves, and looking for love in all the wrong places — while recovering from surgery and unable to move. Brianna Barrett was voted Portland’s Best Storyteller in 2016 and 2017.

“From video series documenting her fight with cancer to 36 Perfectly Appropriate Dinner Conversations, Barrett has made Portlanders cry, laugh, and rejoice.”
