FROM THE PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Every history teacher I’ve ever had told me that we must look to the past to build a better future. This season at Bag&Baggage, we take that adage to heart with four incredible stories that explore our own history as an organization, confront the darker chapters of our nation’s past, and challenge us to consider who has the right to tell whose story—and in what ways.
As we approach 2026, we recognize two significant milestones: 150 years since the establishment of the City of Hillsboro and 250 years since the founding of the United States. While these are moments worth acknowledging, we must also honor the Indigenous peoples who stewarded this land long before colonization and continue to thrive to this day. The ground we stand on carries centuries of narratives that deserve to be heard. For the past 20 years, we have been privileged to share a handful of these stories and remain committed to amplifying essential voices for decades to come.
While we revisit history, we also recognize the challenges of the present. At Bag&Baggage, we believe in using art to uplift and empower, ensuring that all voices—especially those of our most vulnerable—are heard and valued. Your support has always been the heartbeat of our work, and now more than ever, we rely on our community to help us continue making bold, impactful theatre. With you by our side, we can not only create extraordinary art but also remain a place of safety, connection, and belonging for all.
I hope you will join us on this journey through time as we unlock the past to launch into the future.
With gratitude,
Nik Whitcomb, Producing Artistic Director
