SUMMARY:Brave Space: Queer\, Trans and Non-Binary Stories
DESCRIPTION:Bag & Baggage invites you to our first BRAVE SPACE of the Season! We have made a few changes and hope to re-focus our listening space\, and welcoming the opportunity to hear and learn from those whose lives and stories should inform our social justice efforts. \n  \nThe updated Brave Space will provide Coffee and lite snacks\, come early to chat about the efforts made after the last Brave Space. \n  \nHow Does BRAVE SPACE Work? \n  \nThe first BRAVE SPACE of the 2019-2020 season will take place on Sunday\, July 28th. Before regularly scheduled Sunday matinee\, of Much Ado About Nothing from 10:30am-12:00pm. Our guest speaker(s) will be welcomed to The Vault\, and offered the chance to tell us their stories\, to lift their voices\, and give us all the benefit of their lives\, and experiences. Our attendees are asked to give these voices their full attention\, to be present\, and to listen with love\, respect\, and kindness. \n  \nThis production’s Brave Space speakers are: \nJustin Charles (thy/thine) – Justin Charles is a bi-lingual Latinx transplant to Portland\, who originally hails from Texas and has traveled the country since studying theatre-forensics at The University Of Mississippi (Ole Miss) participating in various activities. Thy is a veteran to the Bag&Baggage stage\, most recently seen in Peter/Wendy (Mr. Darling/Smee); and is particularly interested in  conversations surrounding gender\, identity\, and representation in this interpretation of Much Ado About Nothing. Thy has recently collaborated with Theatre Vertigo\, Portland Center Stage\, Oregon Children’s Theatre\, Oregon Zoo\, Milagro\, Merry-Go-Round Playhouse\, MadCap Puppets\, Cortland Repertory Theatre\, Western Playhouse*\, and spends their time writing\, expanding resume skills\, crafting jokes\, and developing fictional band names. Thy is an avid reader\, commemorative stamp collector\, music lover\, and suffers from restless-leg syndrome. Thy would like to continue to pursue a life of creativity in the arts.  \nShannon Walton-Clark (she/her) – Shannon Walton-Clark considers herself a life-long Queer activist. She currently serves as one of the founders and core team members of the Westside Queer Resource Center movement\, as well as a junior board member for the Cascade Aids Project. She previously sat on the PFLAG Board of the Spokane Chapter. She is married to her lovely wife\, Shelby and together they are busy raising their cat Mokey in Beaverton. She identifies as a bisexual queer woxmn. DESCRIPTION:The clever little Fox is oh so fond of stealing delicious apples from all corners of Grimm’s Forest. But when the Witch catches Fox stealing apples from their garden\, they curse Fox\, vowing to turn them into a bug unless they are able to complete three challenges to change their ways of trickery and deceit. Fox sets off on a journey to help the daughter of a king\, a boastful tailor\, and a wicked stepsister in a brand new story that weaves together characters from Grimm’s The Frog Prince\, The Brave Little Tailor\, and the lesser-known The Three Little Men in the Wood. Over the course of his journey\, Fox learns to value loyalty\, honesty\, and kindness\, and in the end\, truly becomes a helpful little Fox. \nThe Helpful Little Fox… is Bag&Baggage’s second world-premiere adaptation created specifically for young audiences (aged 6-10) through the Emerging Artist Program; the show is researched\, written\, designed\, and performed by Olivia Anderson\, Kai Hennig\, Jurnee Neeko\, and Darwin Pringle.  \nSuggested age: 6-10\, but enjoyable for all audiences! $5 all ages; lap children 3 and under are free. We do not have booster seats available in the theater\, but seating is tiered. Feel free to bring a pillow if you think you’ll need a boost!
