But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother\, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Holed up at The Cricketers’ Arms\, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers\, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be reunited with Rachel. To prevent discovery\, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple.

DESCRIPTION:Coming to The Vault from Portland-based Teatro Milagro is Milta Ortiz’s inventive new play Judge Torres\, directed by B&B Associate Artist Mandana Khoshnevisan. Based on the true story of Multnomah County Circuit Judge Xiomara Torres\, Judge Torres is a story of magic and Mayan folktales\, of loss and abuse\, and ultimately\, of triumph against all odds. Though Xiomara came of age nearly 30 years ago\, her story and struggles with crossing the border\, missing her family\, maneuvering the US foster care system\, and aging out\, are more relevant today than ever. With the #MeToo movement and immigration reform being debated on the national stage\, Judge Torres gives audiences of all ages a way to address and discuss these sophisticated issues in an inventive\, safe space. The one-hour show will be followed by a talk-back discussion with the cast and director\, facilitated by Pacific University Assistant Professor of English\, Elizabeth Tavares. \nSpecial thanks to the sponsors of the upcoming 2020 tour of Judge Torres: The Ventura Group\, Inc.\, EC Brown Foundation\, Juan Young Trust\, and the Portland Clinic Foundation.

Based on the true story of Multnomah County Circuit Judge Xiomara Torres\, Judge Torres is a story of magic and Mayan folktales\, of loss and abuse\, and ultimately\, of triumph against all odds. Though Xiomara came of age nearly 30 years ago\, her story and struggles with crossing the border\, missing her family\, maneuvering the US foster care system\, and aging out\, are more relevant today than ever. With the #MeToo movement and immigration reform being debated on the national stage\, Judge Torres gives audiences of all ages a way to address and discuss these sophisticated issues in an inventive\, safe space. Smith\, MA\, NCC (she/her\, they/them) \nBri Smith is a Philadelphia\, PA native and recent graduate from Lewis and Clark’s Professional Mental Health Counseling Graduate Program. She is currently working as a Mental Health Counselor at Volunteers of America’s Home-Based Recovery Program\, where Bri works with adults in recovery by running psychoeducation groups and meeting clients for one-on-one individual sessions to address their concerns. Although she works in an addictions program at this time\, she has had experience working with children and has a profound passion to work with those who suffer from trauma. Based on Anthony Burgess’s 1962 novella by the same name\, this controversial film is alternately celebrated and disdained by audiences — including a not-so-warm reception from Burgess himself\, who felt so strongly that Kubrick had missed the point of his story that he wrote a stage adaptation of his novel after the film gained broad notoriety. (You can see Burgess’ dramatized version on stage at B&B October 10-27!) Join us for the film\, and stay to weigh in on the debate yourself in a post-screening discussion with Artistic Director Cassie Greer and cast members from B&B’s production.
