SUMMARY:Many Hats Collaboration presents The Undertaking
DESCRIPTION:An aging mother’s health teeters on the brink. Her adult daughter scrambles to find footing as her role shifts from child to authority figure. Death pounds at the door and they both wonder\, could someone this pissed off actually be dying?  \nThrough an interdisciplinary blend of music\, movement and theatrical storytelling\, The Undertaking portrays end-of-life care of an elder using Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2\, played live by local classical ensemble Northwest Piano Trio. Incorporating original text by playwright Emily Gregory along with the classical score\, The Undertaking alternates between movement and original tragicomic scenes to tell the story of the complicated questions which come with caregiving (and receiving).  \nJoAnn Johnson\, Beth Thompson and the musicians of Northwest Piano Trio team up for an unforgettable dance-drama. “Johnson and Thompson do an incredible job of illustrating the complex relationship between parent and child\,” says Broadway World\, calling it “painful and beautiful.”

SUMMARY:SOLO FEST 2020
DESCRIPTION:SOLO Fest showcases stories\, performers\, and artists who are not typically seen on stages in Washington County — people and experiences that have either been ignored\, silenced\, or dismissed. With SOLO Fest\, we celebrate the diversity of the people who live here in our community\, and we honor their stories through the vehicle of solo performance. This year’s festival features the following shows: \n  \nCinnamon and Cigarettes\nWritten and Performed by Jenny Newbry\nDirected by Cassie Greer \nAn exploration of the ways we fall apart and seek to heal\, Cinnamon and Cigarettes is a true story that takes us on an interwoven journey of 4-year-old Jenny and her best friend Jeremy as they grow up and face broken homes\, multiple moves\, violent crime\, depression\, alcohol and drug use\, and addiction cycles. When we realize our parents can’t protect us from the harshness of life\, how do we cope – and what is it that can transform coping into flailing for some people\, or into thriving for others?  How do we heal from pain that feels too deep to endure\, and what do we do when we feel hopeless and alone?  \nThursday\, Jan. 30 @ 7:30 PM – Act I \nSaturday\, Feb. 1 @ 7:30 PM – Act I \n  \nUNIVERSO || The Creation Story\nWritten and Performed by Joaquin Lopez\nConceptualized by Joaquin Lopez and Michael Cavazos\nDirected by Michael Cavazos\nFeaturing the music from the album UNIVERSO \nThis multi-media bilingual presentation shares the formative experiences of a gay man who comes of age navigating cultural identity\, sexual intimacy\, the yearning to be seen\, and the impact of the Pulse Nightclub Massacre. The audience will enter a magical world that pays tribute to Latino queer identity\, emotional survival\, and personal transformation to a disco beat! Directed by queer Latino artist\, Michael Cavazos (Hand2Mouth Theatre)\, the show features the music from Joaquin Lopez’s recent electro-pop album release—UNIVERSO. \nThursday\, Jan. 30 @ 7:30 PM – Act II \nSaturday\, Feb. 1 @ 7:30 PM – Act II \n  \nYou Were Supposed To Be This Great Thing\nWritten and Performed by Warren McPherson \nWhen you grow up Catholic and all your mom wants is for you to be The Pope\, well\, there’s going to be some real disappointment in life. Starting with visions of the papal office\, moving through athletic stardom\, all the way to his current quest to be Super Dad\, McPherson’s one-man storytelling show navigates a life spent constantly questioning the definition of greatness.  \nFriday\, Jan. 31 @ 7:30 PM – Act I \nSaturday\, Feb. 1 @ 2 PM – Act I \n  \nQueen Bess\nWritten and Performed by Victoria Alvarez-Chacon\nAdapted from Robert Irvin’s Before Amelia \nElizabeth Coleman\, AKA Bessie Coleman\, AKA Queen Bess\, was an early civil aviator. She was the first woman of Black and Native American ancestry to hold a pilot license in the United States. Follow Bessie just moments after her last decent; soar with her as she flashes back on her life and the people who influenced her. \nFriday\, Jan. 31 @ 7:30 PM – Act II \nSaturday\, Feb. 1 @ 2 PM – Act II \n  \nAll performances will feature a talk-back discussion with the artists following the conclusion of both shows. Join us at The Vault to experience the work of these exemplary artists!

SUMMARY:The Game's Afoot\, or Holmes for the Holidays
DESCRIPTION:It’s December 1936\, and Broadway star William Gillette\, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes\, has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death\, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. It is then up to Gillette himself\, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes\, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. Winner of the 2012 Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Play\, and featuring a cast of B&B favorites directed by Resident Artist Kymberli Colbourne\, the danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.

SUMMARY:*SOLD OUT* It's A Tony Starlight Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Remember the classic holiday TV shows of your childhood\, when entertainers like Bing Crosby and Dean Martin spread the holiday cheer far and wide and you couldn’t help but feel the warmth and glow of the season? Now in its 13th year\, It’s a Tony Starlight Christmas brings back these uplifting holiday traditions and puts a fresh\, comedic spin on them. \nTony has joined forces with Bo Ayars (arranger and conductor for Liberace\, Elvis Presley\, Barbra Streisand) to put together a music and comedy Christmas program like nothing else! Swinging standards\, comedy routines that lampoon Millennial and Generation X culture\, impressions of Dean Martin\, Bing Crosby\, Jimmy Durante\, Neil Diamond\, Louis Armstrong\, and more. Tony and Barbara Ayars also perform songs from such holiday specials as How The Grinch Stole Christmas\, Scrooge\, and several of the Rankin/Bass animated specials like The Year Without A Santa Claus and Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer\, complete with character voices. The show is both silly and sweet\, and sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

SUMMARY:Fake Radio presents It's A Wonderful Life
DESCRIPTION:The final show of Fake Radio’s 2019 season is always a sellout and for good reason: it’s one of the most beloved American holiday stories of all time! \nGeorge Bailey spends his life sacrificing his dreams for the good of others in the town of Bedford Falls\, despite the relentless pressure from the evil millionaire\, Mr. Potter. One fateful Christmas Eve finds George emotionally broken after his uncle misplaces the $8000 that the family business needs to stay afloat. George’s guardian angel\, Clarence\, falls to Earth — literally — and helps George rediscover the value and meaning of his life.  \nFirst released in 1946\, It’s A Wonderful Life was so popular that it was re-written for radio broadcast the following year for Lux Radio Theatre on CBS; Jimmy Stewart reprised his role as George Bailey in the radio adaptation. Now\, 72 years later\, Fake Radio is thrilled to recreate that entire 1947 CBS radio broadcast of the holiday classic It’s A Wonderful Life — commercials and all — for live audiences around Stumptown. And\, as usual\, we’ll have a little bit of fun with the script!
