SUMMARY:AM Gold Seventies Soft Rock Show
DESCRIPTION:Tony Starlight makes an evening out of performing songs from the stalwarts of the AM dial in the 1970s. Artists like Elton John\, Neil Diamond\, Carole King\, Jim Croce\, Little River Band\, Carly Simon\, Gordon Lightfoot\, Paul Simon\, Barry Manilow\, and Billy Joel. Hits like “Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl)”\, “Dancin’ In The Moonlight”\, “Welcome Back”\, “Seasons In The Sun” and much\, much more! \n“We are always shocked at how the audience seems to know all the words to every song in our playlist. To hear the crowd sing “give me the beat boys and free my soul\, I wanna get lost in your Rock n’ Roll and drift away” is magical. It’s like a big campfire sing-along\, K-Tel style!” – Tony Starlight \nTony performs with a live band\, NO PRE-RECORDED TRACKS.

SUMMARY:Deathtrap
DESCRIPTION:The longest-running thriller on Broadway comes to Main Street in downtown Hillsboro. A fiendishly clever plot\, with nerve-jangling twists and turns\, Deathtrap is a true classic of American theatre. \nSidney Bruhl\, a once-successful writer of stage thrillers\, is in the grip of chronic writer’s block\, when young playwright Clifford Anderson sends Bruhl his brilliant new whodunit\, Deathtrap. Desperate to set Broadway alight once more\, should Bruhl kill the newcomer and pass the play off as his own? \nNo one is who they appear to be\, and\, with every twist and turn\, Deathtrap will keep you guessing until the bitter\, bloody end! A taut\, terrifying\, and thrilling way to kick off the Halloween season! \n“Thrillers are a tough genre to make work in live theatre\, but when they’re as well written as Ira Levin’s 1978 masterpiece\, they can be as hair-raising and suspenseful as the very best thriller films… an exciting night of highly enjoyable entertainment\, filled with twists and turns!” \n– Jacob Davis\, The Chicago Critic

SUMMARY:Magazine Lecture: Artistic License and Performing Rights
DESCRIPTION:Many theatre patrons are unaware of the notion of “performing rights” and how those contracts can impact the overall staging and approach to a production. Ira Levin\, the author of Deathtrap\, and his estate have a wide range of requirements and restrictions on how theatre companies can produce his classic work while\, at the same time\, theatres still want to put their own unique interpretation onto the play. In this discussion\, Artistic Director Scott Palmer discusses the importance of performing rights agreements in light of the very real need to have a unique opinion about the work B&B produces.

SUMMARY:Write A Play! with Dan Kitrosser
DESCRIPTION:Write a Play! with Dan Kitrosser \n$300/person \n8 classes\, and a final performance \nThe Vault Theater \n09/24 – 6:30-9:30 PM \n10/01 – 6:30-9:30 PM \n10/08 – 6:30-9:30 PM \n10/15 – 6:30-9:30 PM \n10/22 – 6:30-9:30 PM \n10/29 – 6:30-9:30 PM \n11/05 – 6:30-9:30 PM \n11/12 – 6:30-9:30 PM \n11/19 (Performance)- 6:00-10:00 PM \nAward-winning playwright and screenwriter Dan Kitrosser returns to Bag&Baggage and The Vault Theater to teach his methodology of playwriting.  Playwrights will attend weekly sessions at The Vault\, working towards the completion of a brand new play\, which will culminate in readings of their plays. \nBag&Baggage has been hugely successful at presenting new takes on familiar stories –  a style and approach that is shared by Dan! Dan Kitrosser fervently believes that when we create something new in art\, we are still always standing on the shoulders of the art and artists that came before us.  In this eight-week class\, playwrights will bring folktales\, myths\, novels\, and plays that they adore and from that clay that is story\, each playwright will mold a brand new play. From direct adaptation to modern-day updates or even just using the imagery and myths as inspiration\, everything is possible! \nWe will meet once a week for 3 hours.  Each class will cover a different element of playwriting\, including a discussion\, an in-class writing exercise\, as well as time for each playwright to have pages of their full-length play read aloud and discussed by the group.  Each playwright will finish a first draft of a play between 60 and 100 pages in length by the end of the class. We will culminate the 8 weeks with a performance of excerpts from all of the plays.
