After landing at Glasgow Airport, complete customs and immigration formalities before transferring to your city-center hotel. After checking in, you are free for individual pursuits during the day and then, in the evening, join your host, Scott Palmer, for a no-host welcome reception at Drygate Brewing (Glasgow’s premier brewery), co-hosted by Scott’s friend (and manager of Drygate), Blair Sutherland. Snacks provided!

Fri, Jul-20 –          GLASGOW AT LEISURE and Much Ado About Nothing at BARD IN THE BOTANICS

After a full British breakfast at the hotel, enjoy the sights of Glasgow during the day with your Glasgow City Sightseeing bus pass (a 2 day hop on and off pass is included in your tour) and then meet Scott at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens in the evening for an outdoor performance of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing followed by a meet-and-greet with the cast, director, and crew at Oran Mor (a fabulous bar just across the street from the Botanic Gardens inside the renovate former Kelvinside Parish Church: oran-more.co.uk). This is a particular highlight as our tour group will get to spend time with Jennifer Dick, Associate Artistic Director of Bard In The Botanics, who also directed Bag&Baggage’s production of Shakespeare’s R&J.

Sat, Jul-21           GLASGOW CITY WALKING TOUR and evening arts experience

Enjoy a guided walking tour of the highlights of Glasgow after a full British breakfast at the hotel. You may want to visit the Gallery of Modern Art, which is housed in the former townhouse of a wealthy tobacco merchant or The Willow Tearoom, which was established by Kate Cranston in 1903. Glasgow is also a shopper’s paradise with over 1,500 stores located within the city. In the late afternoon, you can join Scott and his former boss, Andy Arnold, Artistic Director of The Tron Theatre, for a private tour of the theatre and grab a drink in the infamous Tron Bar, and then you may like to grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants and pubs located in Glasgow’s trendy Merchant City neighborhood before you join Scott at a “to be determined” arts event (possibly at the Tron Theatre, The Citizen’s Theatre, The Tramway, or other uniquely-Glasgow hotspot!)

OVERNIGHT: GRAND CENTRAL HOTEL, GLASGOW

Sun, Jul-22          CULZEAN CASTLE and ROBERT BURNS COUNTRY

After breakfast at the hotel, join the private CIE bus tour  (with tour guide) to visit the Culzean Castle and Park, which is set on a cliff top perch and has been associated with the Kennedy family since the 14th century. Continue on to Alloway to visit the Robert Burns Museum, a 21st century tribute to the Scottish Bard, Robert Burns. The museum houses the world’s most important collection of Burns’ original works and personal belongings, in a bright and impressive surrounding. Later, we journey to Edinburgh, check in at our city-center hotel and enjoy the balance of the day at your leisure.

OVERNIGHT: DOUBLETREE BY HILTON HOTEL, EDINBURGH

Mon, Jul-23        EDINBURGH CASTLE and THE ROYAL MILE

This morning, after a traditional British breakfast, we set off on a guided tour of Edinburgh to see some of the city’s magnificent highlights. During your tour, you will travel through the Old Town and, of course, along the Royal Mile. If time permits, you can also see the Palace of Holyroodhouse, St. Giles Cathedral and even the National Museum of Scotland. Also, tour the imposing Edinburgh Castle, perched high above the city on volcanic rock. Then board your luxury motor coach and motor a short distance to Helix Park so you can view the Kelpies (30 meter high horse-head sculptures next to the stunning Forth and Clyde canal). Continue on to the outskirts of Stirling to Deanston Distillery, which began as 17th century cotton mill before becoming a distillery in 1967. Enjoy a tour of this traditional distillery along with a sample of this fine whiskey that reflects its Scottish heritage. Then check into the historic Highland Hotel for your overnight stay. Once you settle in, you are free to dine locally.

OVERNIGHT: HIGHLAND HOTEL, STIRLING

Tue, Jul-24          STIRLING CASTLE

After breakfast at the hotel, we visit Stirling Castle, captured from the English in 1297 by William Wallace and again in 1314 by Robert the Bruce, Stirling Castle has featured significantly throughout Scottish history. Next, we journey through the scenic Trossachs National Park and board watercraft for a lake cruise on the breathtaking Loch Katrine, which is the main water reservoir for the city of Glasgow. Then, a short drive to central Glasgow and check into your hotel. You may wish to relax in your room or explore some of the city before an independent dinner.

OVERNIGHT: APEX CITY HOTEL, GLASGOW

Wed, Jul-25         BACK TO GLASGOW, FINAL NIGHT DINNER AND EDWARD III AT BARD IN THE BOTANICS
