SUMMARY:Brave Space: The Criminal Justice System
DESCRIPTION:Bag&Baggage invites you to the next BRAVE SPACE\, welcoming the opportunity to hear and learn from those whose lives and stories should inform our social justice efforts.\n\nWe are reaching out to YOU specifically because you:\n\nYou are a recommended friends or family of a company member\,\nYou are a member of our Board or one of our artists\, and we believe our organization can benefit greatly from being involved in these listening sessions; or\nYou are a local community leader who has shown a commitment to social justice and equity.\n \nCoffee and lite snacks will be provided\, come early to chat with each other about the Brave Steps taken to make a difference in our community.\n\n\nBefore regularly scheduled Sunday matinee\, of The Measure of Innocence\, our guest speaker(s) will be welcomed to The Vault\, and offered the chance to tell us their stories\, to lift their voices\, and give us all the benefit of their lives\, and experiences. Our attendees  are asked to give these voices their full attention\, to be present\, and to listen with love\, respect\, and kindness.\n\nSpeakers:\nDonna Hayes\, from Chicago Illinois. Mother of 5 and grandmother of 20 something. Feb. 9\, 2017\, her grandson was murdered by a Portland police officer and it was the beginning of my fight for justice which to date they have not received. She is an early member of Pacific Northwest Family Circle. Her job and passion is looking for the family in order to bring them into the fold so that they can have the support and not feel alone. \nThis is an organization that is uniting Oregon and Washington families to struggle on behalf of their loved ones for police accountability. They are an all-volunteer group that supports the families who were killed or injured by police. The present fight is Oregon DA for the People.\nTo take action click here https://www.pnwfamilycircle.org/events/\n\n\nTerrence Hayes\, represents  two organizations- he is a leader in Liberation Literacy\, a political study and re-entry organization for folks who are doing or have done time at CRCI.  He also is a part of our organization and campaign Oregon DA for the People\, fighting for an end to the racism and classism of over-prosecution\, policing\, and prisons by building a powerful coalition to influence the candidates and policies of the District Attorney- in the upcoming elections in Multnomah and Clackamas County.\nhttps://liberationliteracy.weebly.com/donate.html\n\nLakayana Drury\, (bio to come)

SUMMARY:PoC Night: The Measure of Innocence
DESCRIPTION:The Measure of Innocence takes a close look at systemic racism in the United States through the lens of the criminal justice system and prison industrial complex. We realize that PoC‘s or people whose lives have been affected by incarceration may feel isolated in an audience\, as they may be the only representatives of these groups in the theater while these sensitive themes are being played out on stage. With this in mind\, we invite BIPoC audience members and those whose lives have been impacted by incarceration to join us on Saturday\, March 21st at 7:30 pm. Our goal is to create a comfortable and safe environment for watching the show and supporting the work of a PoC playwright and actors; audience advocates will be on hand to provide support in potentially triggering moments. The evening will also feature the opportunity for a post-show discussion\, led by facilitator James Dixon\, to further explore the themes of the show in a safe and supportive environment.\n\nWe are offering $15 tickets for this PoC Night\, using the code Claudio when booking tickets online\, by phone\, or at the door.\n\nClick here for the Facebook Event

SUMMARY:SOLO FEST 2020
DESCRIPTION:SOLO Fest showcases stories\, performers\, and artists who are not typically seen on stages in Washington County — people and experiences that have either been ignored\, silenced\, or dismissed. With SOLO Fest\, we celebrate the diversity of the people who live here in our community\, and we honor their stories through the vehicle of solo performance. This year’s festival features the following shows: \n  \nCinnamon and Cigarettes\nWritten and Performed by Jenny Newbry\nDirected by Cassie Greer \nAn exploration of the ways we fall apart and seek to heal\, Cinnamon and Cigarettes is a true story that takes us on an interwoven journey of 4-year-old Jenny and her best friend Jeremy as they grow up and face broken homes\, multiple moves\, violent crime\, depression\, alcohol and drug use\, and addiction cycles. When we realize our parents can’t protect us from the harshness of life\, how do we cope – and what is it that can transform coping into flailing for some people\, or into thriving for others?  How do we heal from pain that feels too deep to endure\, and what do we do when we feel hopeless and alone?  \nThursday\, Jan. 30 @ 7:30 PM – Act I \nSaturday\, Feb. 1 @ 7:30 PM – Act I \n  \nUNIVERSO || The Creation Story\nWritten and Performed by Joaquin Lopez\nConceptualized by Joaquin Lopez and Michael Cavazos\nDirected by Michael Cavazos\nFeaturing the music from the album UNIVERSO \nThis multi-media bilingual presentation shares the formative experiences of a gay man who comes of age navigating cultural identity\, sexual intimacy\, the yearning to be seen\, and the impact of the Pulse Nightclub Massacre. The audience will enter a magical world that pays tribute to Latino queer identity\, emotional survival\, and personal transformation to a disco beat! Directed by queer Latino artist\, Michael Cavazos (Hand2Mouth Theatre)\, the show features the music from Joaquin Lopez’s recent electro-pop album release—UNIVERSO. \nThursday\, Jan. 30 @ 7:30 PM – Act II \nSaturday\, Feb. 1 @ 7:30 PM – Act II \n  \nYou Were Supposed To Be This Great Thing\nWritten and Performed by Warren McPherson \nWhen you grow up Catholic and all your mom wants is for you to be The Pope\, well\, there’s going to be some real disappointment in life. Starting with visions of the papal office\, moving through athletic stardom\, all the way to his current quest to be Super Dad\, McPherson’s one-man storytelling show navigates a life spent constantly questioning the definition of greatness.  \nFriday\, Jan. 31 @ 7:30 PM – Act I \nSaturday\, Feb. 1 @ 2 PM – Act I \n  \nQueen Bess\nWritten and Performed by Victoria Alvarez-Chacon\nAdapted from Robert Irvin’s Before Amelia \nElizabeth Coleman\, AKA Bessie Coleman\, AKA Queen Bess\, was an early civil aviator. She was the first woman of Black and Native American ancestry to hold a pilot license in the United States. Follow Bessie just moments after her last decent; soar with her as she flashes back on her life and the people who influenced her. \nFriday\, Jan. 31 @ 7:30 PM – Act II \nSaturday\, Feb. 1 @ 2 PM – Act II \n  \nAll performances will feature a talk-back discussion with the artists following the conclusion of both shows. Join us at The Vault to experience the work of these exemplary artists!

SUMMARY:The Game's Afoot\, or Holmes for the Holidays
DESCRIPTION:It’s December 1936\, and Broadway star William Gillette\, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes\, has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death\, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. It is then up to Gillette himself\, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes\, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. Winner of the 2012 Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Play\, and featuring a cast of B&B favorites directed by Resident Artist Kymberli Colbourne\, the danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.
