Until now. \nAs part of its examination of the 19th Amendment centennial\, The New York Times is publishing a new book\, called Finish the Fight!: The Brave and Revolutionary Women Who Fought for the Right to Vote. Written by Times journalists\, the book explores diverse women who fought for suffrage\, but have been less recognized for their work. \nThe Times also asked playwright Ming Peiffer and director Whitney White to adapt some of the book’s biographies into a new form of theatrical storytelling\, with invented scenes and imagined conversations among five women. Now he’s faced with a dilemma: release the video and bring unwanted exposure to himself and his family\, or keep the video private and be complicit in the injustice?  \n  \nWith a deep sense of humanity and a deft directorial hand\, Reinaldo Marcus Green smartly reformulates the traditional construction of “protagonist” to magnify the power of perspective. Green tells the story of how the footage affects the lives of three upstanding men in Bed-Stuy: a young father striving to support his new family\, an African-American cop dealing with the fallout of his colleague’s mistake\, and a star high school athlete who becomes politicized by the incident. Each man is very different\, but they equally feel the urgency of the question they must all face: should I take moral action or remain safely on the sidelines? DESCRIPTION:Due to rising health concerns\, the remaining performances of The Measure of Innocence have been canceled.\n  \n“Some rise by sin\, some by virtue fall.” Drawing on Shakespeare’s inherent genius for seamlessly blending the comic and the tragic\, Portland-based playwright Anya Pearson (Made to Dance in Burning Buildings) adds her own unique command of language\, humor\, and social insight to this story\, reimagining Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure through the all-too-relevant lens of the systemically unjust criminal justice system and the contemporary Black Lives Matter movement. Set in our current fractured political landscape\, The Measure of Innocence is a captivating new dramedy about the dichotomy between corruption and humanity\, morality and mercy\, directed by New York-based theatre artist Wednesday Sue Derrico. This is the second world premiere commission of Bag&Baggage’s nationally-acclaimed Problem Play Project series\, supported by the Meyer Memorial Trust.

DESCRIPTION:Bag&Baggage invites you to the next BRAVE SPACE\, welcoming the opportunity to hear and learn from those whose lives and stories should inform our social justice efforts.\n\nWe are reaching out to YOU specifically because you:\n\nYou are a recommended friends or family of a company member\,\nYou are a member of our Board or one of our artists\, and we believe our organization can benefit greatly from being involved in these listening sessions; or\nYou are a local community leader who has shown a commitment to social justice and equity.\n \nCoffee and lite snacks will be provided\, come early to chat with each other about the Brave Steps taken to make a difference in our community.\n\n\nBefore regularly scheduled Sunday matinee\, of The Measure of Innocence\, our guest speaker(s) will be welcomed to The Vault\, and offered the chance to tell us their stories\, to lift their voices\, and give us all the benefit of their lives\, and experiences. Our attendees  are asked to give these voices their full attention\, to be present\, and to listen with love\, respect\, and kindness.\n\nSpeakers:\nDonna Hayes\, from Chicago Illinois. Mother of 5 and grandmother of 20 something. Feb. 9\, 2017\, her grandson was murdered by a Portland police officer and it was the beginning of my fight for justice which to date they have not received. She is an early member of Pacific Northwest Family Circle. Her job and passion is looking for the family in order to bring them into the fold so that they can have the support and not feel alone. \nThis is an organization that is uniting Oregon and Washington families to struggle on behalf of their loved ones for police accountability. They are an all-volunteer group that supports the families who were killed or injured by police.
