SUMMARY:Sequestered Soliloquies VI: The Light At The End Of The Tunnel
DESCRIPTION:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLizHBNg5eM \nWatch the full recording of Sequestered Soliloquies VI here\, or by using the player above!\n*original stream 02/28/2021 \n\nWe’ve made it to 2021\, COVID vaccines are rolling out\, and we just survived an Oregon snowpocalypse – things are looking up! We’re also excited to be collaborating with LineStorm Playwrights and PDX Playwrights to bring a sixth round of Sequestered Soliloquies your way\, with a theme capturing our current mood: “The Light at the End of the Tunnel”. Ten teams (playwright\, actor\, director) will create\, rehearse\, and perform brand-new monologues\, which will be streamed directly to your screens on B&B’s Facebook and YouTube pages starting at 7:00pm on Sunday\, February 28th. Each monologue incorporates a line borrowed from “The Woman Who Was Done” – an aptly-titled short story from a 1902 Sunday Edition of The St. Louis [Missouri] Republic\, which contains one of the earliest appearances of the phrase “light at the end of the tunnel”. (You learn something new every day…) If you can’t catch us live on the 28th\, don’t worry: a full video of all the soliloquies will be available on our website for anytime viewing\, along with the videos of our other five rounds of Sequestered Soliloquies. Thanks for continuing to celebrate virtual instant theatre with us! \nWatch on our Facebook page!\nWatch on our YouTube channel!

SUMMARY:#ENOUGH: Plays To End Gun Violence
DESCRIPTION:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxkbDHdEKWs \nOn December 14\, 2020 – the 8th anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting – Bag&Baggage will be participating with theatres across the country in #ENOUGH: Plays To End Gun Violence. This project features over 418 simultaneous readings of plays written by teens\, intended to spark critical conversation about gun violence. Here in Hillsboro\, we’re bringing you the seven winning scripts from #ENOUGH’s nationally-juried playwriting contest\, all performed by the incredible student actors of the Glencoe High School Theatre Department. We hope that you will join us that evening as we come together to bring awareness to this important subject. \nAnd find more info on the #ENOUGH Plays Project on their website. And be sure to follow #ENOUGH on Facebook and Instagram for more updates from them! \nThis project strives to inspire conversation and action across the nation; one way to get involved locally is with Don’t Shoot PDX. SUMMARY:Unpacking the Baggage: 'It Can’t Happen Here' Stream & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Written in 1935 during the rise of fascism in Europe\, Sinclair Lewis’ darkly satirical novel It Can’t Happen Here follows the ascent of a demagogue who becomes president of the United States by promising to return the country to greatness. In 2016 Berkeley Repertory Theatre unveiled a new stage adaptation of Lewis’ prescient novel; one week after that production ended\, the presidential election roiled our nation. Now\, Berkeley Rep reprises that production with the same director and much of the original cast\, but this time as a radio play in four episodes\, just in time for the 2020 presidential election. The audio drama is being offered free to organizations across the country. The intent for the project is to encourage dialogue and motivate citizens to exercise their civic power and vote.  \nBag&Baggage is honored to join theatres across the nation to help spread the word about this production. Berkeley Rep’s former Artistic Director Tony Taccone along with screenwriter Bennett S. Cohen return with the original director\, two-time Obie Award winner Lisa Peterson. The trio previously collaborated on It Can’t Happen Here when it had its premiere at Berkeley Rep in 2016. \nOscar-nominated actor David Strathairn (Good Night\, and Good Luck) will join many of the previous cast members to bring this political drama to life.  \nA live Q&A session with the creative team will take place following the broadcast. \nFind more info on Berkeley Repertory Theatre’s event page!

SUMMARY:Sequestered Soliloquies IV: Special Delivery
DESCRIPTION:As wildfires are making their way through our region\, we’ve decided to hold off our stream of Sequestered Soliloquies IV until next Sunday\, September 20th at 7:00pm. We know that creating art in the face of anxiety and adversity can be a powerful salve\, so some of our artists will still be creating work this weekend\, while some will be waiting until next weekend when we can all (hopefully) breathe a little easier. Regardless\, we hope you mark your calendars to join us on the 20th\, and in the meantime stay safe and well. If you’re looking for a way to help those suffering in our community\, consider making a donation to the American Red Cross – you can select “Western Wildfires” from the dropdown menu on their website. \n  \n\n  \nThe Post Office has been getting a lot of attention these days – whether you’ve rediscovered letter-writing during the pandemic\, become an online-shopping addict\, or are simply preparing to exercise your democratic rights this November. We’re giving the USPS a little love – and sending YOU a virtual care package of sorts – with our next round of Sequestered Soliloquies! Ten teams (playwright\, actor\, and director) will create\, rehearse\, and perform brand-new monologues\, streamed directly to your screens on B&B’s Facebook page starting at 7:00pm on Sunday\, September 20th. If you can’t catch us live on Sunday evening\, don’t worry: a full video of all the performances will be available on our website for anytime viewing. The theme of this fourth round of Sequestered Soliloquies is “Special Delivery\,”  featuring one line in every monologue taken from a famous piece of correspondence – see if you can figure out which ones they are!  \n  \nFind our Facebook event here!

SUMMARY:'The Lost Boys of Portlandia' Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:As the next installment in our discussion series\, we bring you The Lost Boys of Portlandia\, a short\,  locally-made documentary focusing on Portland’s houseless youth. The iconic story of Peter Pan is a catalyst for exploring the relationship of children and parents\, coming of age\, and the ethics of rebellion\, resistance\, and acquiescence — all from the viewpoint of youth who live on the Portland streets. As they debate if and how to return to mainstream society – to a world that threw them away – we gain insight into their complex humanity\, beyond the usual stereotypes. Shining a light on one of our region’s most pressing social issues\, The Lost Boys of Portlandia is also the origin story and inspiration for Outside the Frame\, an organization that trains houseless and marginalized youth to be the directors of their own films and lives. \nFor this event\, we’re thrilled to be joined by Outside the Frame filmmakers\, including youth who have experienced homelessness\, and Nili Yosha\, the Executive Director of Outside the Frame and the director of The Lost Boys of Portlandia.  \nLearn more about Outside the Frame and support their work here.

SUMMARY:"Finish The Fight" Discussion
DESCRIPTION:They were tireless organizers. Tenacious fighters. And political geniuses. They were Black and Latinx. Indigenous and immigrant. Together\, they won women the right to vote and laid the cornerstone for gender equality in the United States. Yet their stories have rarely been told. Until now. \nAs part of its examination of the 19th Amendment centennial\, The New York Times is publishing a new book\, called Finish the Fight!: The Brave and Revolutionary Women Who Fought for the Right to Vote. Written by Times journalists\, the book explores diverse women who fought for suffrage\, but have been less recognized for their work. \nThe Times also asked playwright Ming Peiffer and director Whitney White to adapt some of the book’s biographies into a new form of theatrical storytelling\, with invented scenes and imagined conversations among five women. The events of their lives\, and their accomplishments\, are real. \nStarring Harriett D. Foy\, Zora Howard\, Q’orianka Kilcher\, Leah Lewis\, and Chelsea Rendon\, you can register to watch Finish The Fight on the NY Times platform at 4:00pm on Tuesday\, August 18th\, at https://timesevents.nytimes.com/finishthefight. \nFollowing the virtual performance on the NY Times platform\, join Bag&Baggage on Zoom at 6:30pm to talk about the women at the heart of this work\, the things we learn from hearing their stories\, and the ways we can continue to honor their legacy in 2020. RSVP to boxoffice@bagnbaggage.org for the link to join our Zoom.
