SUMMARY:The Glass Menagerie
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in 15 years\, Bag&Baggage revisits Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie\, a haunting memory play that stands as a cornerstone of American theatre. This semi-autobiographical classic follows Tom Wingfield as he struggles between duty and desire\, caught between his overbearing yet fiercely loving mother\, Amanda\, and his painfully innocent sister\, Laura. A poignant exploration of the fragility of dreams and the weight of family ties\, The Glass Menagerie lingers in the heart long after the curtain falls. This production features Resident Artists Kymberli Colbourne and Taya Dixon in a fresh and intimate staging of Williams’ timeless masterpiece. Don’t miss this stunning revival of a play that reminds us how memory shapes our lives in ways both beautiful and heartbreaking.

SUMMARY:DANCE PARTY 101
DESCRIPTION:Vault Academy Taught by Mandana Khoshnevisan \nDo you ever feel like “going dancing” but aren’t quite sure what to do when you get there? Do dance floors at events make you feel excited and/or scared? Always wanted to dance like no one’s watching? Looking for a fun night out that’s part how-to and part get-down? You’ve come to the right place! Welcome to the inaugural night of Dance Party 101! Your host Mandy Khoshnevisan (B&B resident artist and improv/movement professional) will lead partygoers through a casual dance odyssey\, infused with the spirit of improv: starting with some whole-group silliness\, playing some improv dance games and getting loose; then learning one or two versatile and simple partner-dance steps\, and then continuing the party for the rest of the night! The dance floor will be open and so will the B&B lobby bar. It’s part dance class\, part dance party. Pick up some strategies to dance with groups of friends\, on your own\, and with a partner\, and then put those into practice on your own! This month’s event may be the first of a series\, so stop by in your 80s prom best\, or whatever else makes you feel fancy\, and come get silly with us! \nDoors at 6pm; event begins at 6:30pm \nOptional outfit theme: 80s Prom!\n        (Or\, feel free to wear any outfit that makes you feel fabulous)

SUMMARY:Improvised Shakespeare
DESCRIPTION:July Vault Academy Taught by Mandana Khoshnevisan \nCome and play in the world of Shakespeare: a world of heightened language\, melodrama\, and high theatrical stakes! In this workshop\, we’ll demystify that Elizabethan grammar (thee/thou/hither/thither?)\, play with poetic language\, and explore the staging and storytelling techniques that make Shakespeare’s plays sing. Whether or not you’re already a Shakespeare fan\, you’ll get a new understanding of his work by making your own with the same set of building blocks! Plus\, you can use these same techniques in this or other genres to give your own improv (or writing\, or storytelling) a new dose of theatricality! \nNote: some improv experience is recommended in order to take this workshop. \n

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Hillsboro Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Gathering filmmakers\, film lovers\, and culture seekers of Hillsboro to celebrate the art of storytelling on the screen. \nNestled west of Portland\, OR\, Hillsboro has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years\, evolving into an enchanting town that seamlessly blends its historic charm with modern progress. The influx of industry giants like Genentech\, Intel\, and Nike has contributed to its growth\, while the historic downtown area undergoes a vibrant renaissance\, rendering today’s Hillsboro unrecognizable to those who knew it only a bit ago. \nAmidst the thriving film community in the city\, Hillsboro and its neighboring communities yearn for culturally enriching experiences in their own backyard. The Hillsboro Film Festival emerges as a solution to this desire\, poised to not only satiate the local appetite for thought-provoking cinema but also act as a magnet\, drawing artists and film enthusiasts from across the globe to immerse themselves in our community’s unique essence. As attendees explore\, we hope they’ll discover the myriad eateries\, wine bars\, tea shops\, and doggie bakeries that the Cultural Arts District in Historic Downtown Hillsboro proudly showcases. \nAfter selling out our first night before even announcing winners last year we had to add a second night which sold out in days! Our festival is filling a clear need for more film activity in Washington County and we cannot wait to offer a FULL WEEKEND of events in 2025.

SUMMARY:Grizelda's Day Off In Hell (Michigan)
DESCRIPTION:Grizelda is a farmer’s wife—overworked and under-appreciated by her family and in particular\, her husband. But just when she starts to stand up for herself\, she is betrayed and whisked away on a hellish “vacation” by a pair of malevolent travel brokers intent on stealing her soul. Can Grizelda find her confidence and\, more importantly\, find her way home? Can she break free of the cycle she’s been in her whole life? Can anyone tell her where Michigan is?!\n\nBased on “The Devil and the Farmer’s Wife\,” the HYPE troupe has taken this old tale and given it a fresh\, comedic face with a feminist twist. At the beginning of April\, they decided on source material as a collective and got to work writing\, staging\, and designing their own production. Facilitated by HYPE director Grayson Ashford\, working with an all-student production team\, to give full creative control to the HYPE students and allow them to apply the skills they’ve learned during their time in the program.

SUMMARY:Is You Is: A Co-production with Broadway Rose
DESCRIPTION:Steenie Mayfield is working as a school bath attendant in a 1930s “social hygiene” program providing weekly school baths for students with no plumbing at home. She is desperate to move up the ranks and fulfill her dream of teaching\, despite the obstacles for Black teachers and the challenges of the Depression. An offer to visit the famous Field Museum and possibly model for the sculptor working on the newly opened but still-expanding “Races of Mankind” exhibit seems to present an opportunity\, but any thoughts Steenie had of being seen differently are crushed by a disastrous visit to the Museum with a handful of students.\n\nWhat became of Steenie and whether or not she was one of the unidentified models for “racial types” featured in the exhibit becomes the obsession of two modern day museum interns nearly 90 years later\, when they are pulled into a project to restore some of the statues from the exhibit. Their assignment to “restore” becomes a fight to re-story as they are drawn into the legacy of the exhibit which fed false notions of race to millions for decades.\nThis show is presented in a concert production that will feature a cast of local Oregon artists\, an expanded jazz band\, and marks the first collaboration between Washington County’s two resident professional theatres. \nAt the Broadway Rose New Stage\n12850 SW Grant Avenue\, Tigard\, OR

SUMMARY:Tartuffe
DESCRIPTION:This classic French comedy by Moliere invites us into the home of a wealthy family caught in the trap of the new money and intriguing character in town\, Tartuffe. Tartuffe is a textbook on modern comedy that forces us to take a good look at the most pious among us and ask more questions. \n  \nCLICK HERE TO BOOK YOUR TICKETS! \nThis production is presented free of charge to the community of Hillsboro in partnership with the City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department. \n  \nA note from director Nik Whitcomb! \nWhat a joy it is to welcome you all to the final production of this incredible season of re-emergence for Bag&Baggage. It seems even more fitting that we are returning to true form and doing a classic play outdoors in the Tom Hughes Civic Center Plaza!\n \nFor those that may be new to us\, it has been three seasons since we have parked a show here at the Plaza and it feels even more special this time around since we are launching into season 20 in just a few months! We hope you enjoy this classic offering and chance to connect with our lovely community in yet another exciting way!\n \nTartuffe is a hilarious French comedy that doesn’t need much updating to speak to today. Even still\, our production bring us forward many centuries beyond the time of Moliere and plops the story in 1930s America. The country was in the midst of a depression and conmen were more easily able to prey on the wealthy. This was also a critical moment for women in American history. By bringing this play to a more modern time I hoped to empower the strong female characters in the play to really run the show!\n \nTonight I hope you laugh until you cry AND have something to discuss on the car ride home! And then I hope you are inspired to join us again for another exciting season of theatre here at B&B in the fall!\n \nIn Community\,\n \nNik WhitcombProducing Artistic DirectorBag&Baggage Productions
